The Steamboat Warehouse Restaurant is an award winning

seafood and steakhouse located in Washington, La. The building

itself is the only remaining warehouse of seven that were along

bayou Courtableau, formerly known as the Opelousas

River. Construction of the warehouse began in 1819 and was

completed around 1823. Over the years, it has fulfilled many

functions ranging from a feed mill to a general store. Restored to

its original shape in 1977, the Steamboat Warehouse Restaurant

remains a feast for the eyes and appetite. It combines the rustic

atmosphere of historic yesteryear with the wonderful regional

cuisine that is Louisiana at its finest!

Chef/Owner Jason Huguet has been with the restaurant since

1994 where he began as a dishwasher/busboy. Since then he has

worked his way up the ladder, officially becoming owner on June

28th 2006. Jason is a graduate of The Chef John Folse Culinary

Institute at Nicholls State University where he received a Bachelor

of Science in Culinary Arts, class of 2000. He has worked with

chefs such as John Folse himself and Chef Paul Prudhomme of KPaul’s

Louisiana Kitchen in New Orleans. He has won numerous

medals over the years in local cooking competitions and was voted

“Best Chef” in ‘06, ‘07, ‘08 & ‘09 in the Daily World’s Best of the

Best, and is a member of the ‘Global Who’s Who.’ Jason is also a

co-host of the local Opelousas TV show ‘What’s Cookin!” that airs

three times a week.
