Mr. Yam 2010 - Joseph Cassimere
The Louisiana Yambilee Association Board of Directors is pleased announce Joseph Cassimere as their 2010 Mr. Yam. Mr. Cassimere is the second son born to the late Joshua and Christana Cassimere. He is married to Patricia J. Cassimere and is the father of Mark Cassimere of Opelousas. Mr. Cassimere and his wife resides in the Plaisance Community on a small farm. His parents taught him how to work at a very early age and the importance of getting an education, which is very important to be successful in life. He presently serves as Assistant Superintendent of Instruction and Administration for St. Landry Parish Public School System. His hobbies include farming with his brother Raymond P. Cassimere. Mr. Cassimere loves working on the farm planting sweet potatoes, corn, okra, and peas. He also likes raising and hogs. Many people travel many miles to get fresh produce from his farm. Mr. Cassimere states that working on the farm is one of the most enjoyable and relaxing therapies for him. He also enjoys his work as Assistant Superintendent of Instruction and Administration. One of the many joys is seeing students take advantage of the opportunities that our public school system offers, which is providing for our children the skills needed to continue their education. A large percentage of our students return to St. Landry Parish to find work and become leaders in our parish and school system after completing post secondary school. Mr. Yam is chosen by the Board of Directors for his significant contribution to the development and growth of the Sweet Potato Industry. Yambilee Festivities begin October 27th with Family Night.
